“jungwon.”

the younger boy groans, shaking his head vigorously before pressing himself even closer to sunghoon, fingers curling into the sheet between them.

jungwon’s hair is an absolute mess, and his face is puffy from sleep. he’s wearing sunghoon’s shirt from last night, and even though sunghoon can’t see his face, he knows jungwon is probably pouting, too.

“jungwon, you’ve gotta get up. you’ve got class soon, and i have to go to work.”

jungwon breathes out a louder, more annoyed noise before shoving his arm underneath sunghoon’s side and throwing his leg over his waist, tangling them deeper into the cool sheets.

“five more minutes. please?”

sunghoon sighs, burying his face into jungwon’s hair. it’s never just five minutes. five minutes turns into ten. ten minutes turns into fifteen, and before they know it, the two of them are tripping over each other, thirty minutes later, trying to pull their clothes on and make themselves look presentable before bolting out the door to their respective destinations after a quick kiss and murmured text you later’s.

but knowing this, sunghoon still wouldn’t change a thing.

sunghoon thanks his lucky stars™ (jay, one of his best friends in the whole world, something he likes to remind sunghoon of too often when he wants something) for his chance meeting with jungwon.

he and jay were supposed to meet for dinner, to catch up on life after university, when he gets text from his friend, begging for forgiveness.

lucky stars™: im so fuckin sorry hoon but i gotta bail on dinner

lucky stars™: noo is having a meltdown over his senior project and if i leave i think those scissors might end up in my chest cavity

sunghoon chuckles to himself, sending an eyeroll emoji before pocketing his phone. “great. perfect. i’m just… here at a fancy restaurant, talking to myself like a psycho.” he could still have dinner there, sunghoon muses to himself. jay didn’t live too far away, and sunghoon could definitely hold this over his head for free dinner or clothes.

but before he could hail a waiter, sunghoon’s eyes fall onto another boy at a table by himself, staring at his phone with a frown. he watches him card his hand through his hair before throwing his phone onto the table next to an empty wine glass.

“sir? would you like to go ahead and order?” sunghoon’s eyes snap up to the waiter, and he blinks in confusion for a moment before the corner of his mouth quirks up in a grin.

“just another glass of wine. and a refill of whatever that gentleman over there was drinking for him. poor guy looks like he could use it.” the waiter looks over to the boy sunghoon gestures to and smiles, nodding his head before walking off.

sunghoon sits and waits, picking up his refilled glass with a smile as the waiter approaches the boy. he watches him furrow his eyebrows in confusion before the waiter gestures his way, and when they meet eyes, sunghoon just smiles and raises his glass in greeting.

the boy stares at him for a moment. his eyes flick down to his phone, then, with some determination, he picks up his glass and leans it slightly in his direction in a metaphorical toast.

oh, okay. well. shit. what do i do now? sunghoon thinks. he distracts himself with his wine, hoping his internal panic doesn’t show on his face.

after finishing his glass, sunghoon closes his eyes and takes a deep breath in. okay. just. head over to his table. make small talk. don’t open with something weird. or maybe do open with something weird to break the ice. but not like, too weird or else-

“are you okay?”

sunghoon’s eyes snap open, and the boy from across the room is standing next to his table, eyebrow raised. he swallows. the boy looks ethereal in the dim restaurant lighting. he can’t help but think he looks like a cat with the way his makeup is done, accenting the slant of his eyes.

“fine,” sunghoon squeaks, clearing his throat. “fine. i’m okay. sorry, just. i wasn’t expecting you to approach me.”

“you looked like you were having a pretty intense inner monologue. besides, it’d be bad manners not to thank you for the drink. anyone sitting here?” he asks, gesturing to the empty chair across from sunghoon.

“you, hopefully.” the answer earns a small smile from the boy as sunghoon gets up to pull the chair out, grin on his face. “i will tell you right now, i’m painfully awkward, so feel free to run for the hills at any point,” sunghoon says as he sits back down.

“are you also going to tell me you don’t do that often, but you couldn’t resist? it was a very smooth move. very james bond.”

sunghoon tries to stop the fluttering in his stomach when the boy gives him a full smile and fails miserably. “just call me sunghoon. park sunghoon.”

“alright, sunghoon, park sunghoon. my name is jungwon. but you can call me tonight.”

sunghoon snorts so hard, he accidentally kicks the table, ears turning bright red.

one thing leads to another, and somehow, someway, after a few dates over the span of a month, sunghoon realizes he’s ended up with a boyfriend. not just any boyfriend, but a cute university student boyfriend named yang jungwon.

sunghoon comes to that realization when he’s gently poking at jungwon’s cheeks after he’s fallen asleep at sunghoon’s coffee table (accounting homework, sunghoon definitely didn’t envy him).

a fond smile appears on his lips as jungwon mumbles unintelligibly, turning his head to the other side. sunghoon continues to poke softly at his cheek, bringing up his phone to take a few pictures.

suddenly, jungwon’s head whips up, and he sucks in a deep breath before stretching his arms above his head, a squeaking noise escaping him. sunghoon clenches his fist and bites it. how was it possible for someone to be that cute?

jungwon feels arms circling his waist a few seconds after he wakes up, and he struggles half-heartedly against sunghoon as the older pulls him onto his lap, nuzzling his face.

“you are too cute. too fucking cute. how did i get so lucky?” sunghoon kisses his cheek, then presses another kiss to his dimple as jungwon stretches again.

“i dunno. might’ve redeemed all your good karma for me.” jungwon looks up and gives him a cheeky grin. sunghoon rolls his eyes and kisses his forehead. then jungwon’s stomach growls, and sunghoon laughs.

“i already ordered your favorite from our takeout place.”

there’s a twinkle in jungwon’s eyes as he shifts so he’s straddling sunghoon on the floor. “a man after my own heart.”

sunghoon frowns. “wait. you mean i don’t already have it? what have i been holding this entire time?”

jungwon laughs with his entire body before wrapping his arms around sunghoon’s neck and pulling him in for a kiss.

“alright, hoon. when am i gonna meet this mysterious boyfriend of yours? does he exist? did you make him up just to spite me for that one time i bailed on you?”

sunghoon stares blankly at jay before picking up his coffee and taking a sip. “hi, jay. good to see you, too. yes, i’ve been doing well since we last saw each other. thanks for asking. how’s sunoo?”

when the dumb, blissful smile appears on jay’s face, sunghoon hates to admit it, but he finally understands that smile. it’s the same smile he gives jungwon whenever the boy is in his eyesight.

“sunoo is good. we should go on a double date, me and sunoo, and you and your boyfriend. we can go to that restaurant.”

“i guess… let me text him and see if he wants to…”

“bitch, how fucking dare you go off, and get a boyfriend, and keep silent about it for a month! i am revoking your best friend card right now!” sunoo hisses at jungwon.

jungwon sighs, looking up from his laptop. “sunoo. you have no right to get mad at me because this is the first time we’ve literally been in each other’s presence in a month. i checked in to make sure you weren’t dead, and you didn’t even respond with a full yes or no, just the number one, whatever the hell that even means.”

“wonnie! this is monumental! i would’ve dropped everything i was working on if you uttered the words that you’d found a man. who is it? that cute kid from your biology class?” sunoo raises his eyebrows up and down.

“no,” jungwon says thoughtfully, turning his eyes up. “i actually met him because i got stood up by that guy. so, i guess i should get him a thank you card.”

“so? tell me more about him! tell me everything! have you two fucked?”

jungwon pinches the bridge of his nose. “i haven’t even told you his name, and you want to know if we’ve fucked?”

“as best friend, i am privy to that knowledge. spill the deets. right now.” sunoo glares at him and tries to look menacing, but jungwon just rolls his eyes, picking up his phone when it buzzes next to him.

penghoon: wanna go on a double date with my idiot best friend and his boyfriend next week?

jungcat: sure. where?

penghoon: the restaurant where we met ;)

jungcat: only if we get the good wine ;)

“yang jungwon, pay a-tten-tion to me!” sunoo slaps his phone out of his hand, and jungwon sighs heavily. he’s not going to get his essay done today.

when jungwon runs into sunoo in the lobby of the fancy restaurant, he tilts his head to the side. “hey, bestie. not that i don’t love seeing you, but what’re you doing here? date with jay?”

“yep! we’re meeting his best friend’s mysterious boyfriend today.” sunoo claps his hands together excitedly, stopping when jungwon blinks at him rapidly.

“wait. wait a minute,” jungwon says slowly.

“oh, hey, jungwon. nice to see you.” jay sidles in next to sunoo, wrapping his arm around his waist and pulling him closer. “what’re you doing here? hot date?”

before jungwon can answer, jay looks behind him, smile on his face as he waves someone over.

“sunghoon! over here!”

jungwon glances over his shoulder to see sunghoon grinning at him with a wave before his expression turns to confusion, pointing at jay and sunoo.

“hey, won,” he says as soon as he’s close enough, leaning over to kiss his temple.

“wait a goddamn fucking minute,” jay says, pointing between sunghoon and jungwon.

“you’re jay’s best friend?” jungwon turns to sunghoon.

“you’re sunghoon’s boyfriend?” sunoo asks, eyes going wide.

“you know them?” sunghoon asks, raising an eyebrow.

jungwon suddenly starts laughing, covering his mouth with both of his hands for a moment. “jay was the one that ditched you that day?”

sunoo’s hand shoots out and grabs the collar of jungwon’s shirt, dragging him closer, slightly deranged look in his eyes. “you are going to tell me everything.”

time waits for no man.

in the whirlwind of work and loving jungwon, months have gone by.

jungwon spends more time at sunghoon’s apartment and less time at his dorm as time passes.

sunghoon finds little things, like a hoodie or a lost sock that doesn’t belong to him, nestled in the corner of his room or in his laundry basket.

jungwon raids his fridge and eats him out of house and home in the middle of the night, when he’s studying at the coffee table, insisting the floor is more comfortable than the desk in sunghoon’s study.

they have memories everywhere. photobooth pictures from dates to various places. jungwon keeps polaroid pictures of them on the fridge with dates and little notes written in the margin.

there’s a hole in the wall in the kitchen where sunghoon tried to be romantic and picked jungwon up to sit him on the counter, but jungwon was not prepared and fell back, punching a hole into the wall with the spatula in his hand.

at some point, the travel sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that jungwon uses gets replaced with full sized versions in sunghoon’s shower.

but it doesn’t really hit sunghoon until he sees jungwon’s pink toothbrush sitting innocently in a cup on his bathroom sink.

“sunghoon? what’re you doin’ up so early?” sunghoon looks up and sees jungwon’s reflection in the bathroom mirror, rubbing sleepily at his eyes.

as usual, he’s only wearing sunghoon’s shirt, and it falls down to the middle of his thighs. sunghoon can see evidence of last night’s activities coloring his neck red and purple.

“figured i’d try to get to work on time for once,” he says gently, turning around and reaching for the boy. jungwon lets himself get pulled into sunghoon’s embrace, burying his face into sunghoon’s bare chest.

“you’re an idiot. today’s saturday. you don’t have work today.”

sunghoon blinks rapidly before reaching for his phone on the sink and turning on the screen.

“oh. it is.” he feels jungwon smile into his chest before taking a few steps back and yawning.

“come back to bed. close the bedroom door behind you.” jungwon lets sunghoon’s shirt slip from his shoulder, smile turning into a devious grin.

sunghoon sucks in a deep breath before biting his lip, running and scooping the boy up in his arms.

yang jungwon, i love you so much.
